Sensory Solutions: Paediatric Therapy Services

Transforming lives ; Building independence.

The Sensory Solutions Paediatric Therapy team supports and promotes the development of children aged 0-18 years. The overall aim for each child is to reach his/her optimum level of independence and skills in daily tasks. This occurs in partnership with the child’s family or teacher in their home, school and community.

We provide assessment and therapy for kids & teens with:

Individual Assessment

Our comprehensive assessment involves parent/caregiver interviews, clinical observation, multiple standardized assessments when applicable, and a written report.

The assessment report includes interpretation and explanation of all results and clinical observations, as well as a list of practical recommendations and resources for home and school.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Following your child’s assessment and delineation of a plan to help you and your child achieve their goals, therapy sessions specific to your child’s interests, strengths and abilities are developed. Each Occupational Therapy session is 45 minutes in length. We encourage to coach and educate during each therapy session.

Regulate, Connect & Play Program

“Regulate, Connect & Play” refers to a framework that emphasizes the importance of regulating emotions, building relationships, and engaging in play to foster healthy development and well-being, especially in children. This approach suggests that when children are regulated, they are more likely to form healthy connections, and play provides a natural and effective way to practice and learn these skills.
In essence, “Regulate, Connect & Play” highlights the interconnectedness of these three elements and emphasizes how they can be used to support children’s development, emotional well-being, and learning.
This program is suitable for neurodiverse children under five years of age presenting with differences in their social emotional and play skills. Please contact us for more information and schedule for an initial screening appointment.

Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy helps children develop the skills necessary for successful eating, and helps families create happy, healthy mealtime experiences. This is suitable for children of all ages (0-18 years) who are picky eaters, messy eaters and fussy eaters.
Therapy may include:
  • Building oral motor skills like chewing by targeting jaw strength and stability, and tongue mobility.
  • Improving a child’s interoceptive awareness of hunger signals.
  • Integrating appropriate equipment to help the family meet their feeding goals.
  • Improving fine motor skills including utensil use and ability to bring food to their mouth.
  • Supporting a child in overcoming fears related to foods.
  • Educating families on best practice approaches to picky eating.

Zones Regulation

The Zones of Regulation, developed by occupational therapist, Leah Kuypers, is a systematic, cognitive behaviour approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete zones. The Zones of Regulation curriculum provides strategies to teach students (aged 8 to 12 years old) to become more aware of, and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, managing their sensory needs, and improving the ability to problem solve conflicts.

Clinical Supervision

We provide Clinical supervision in Occupational therapy in a formal, mentorship process designed to enhance a supervisee’s clinical knowledge, competency, and professional accountability.
